In Inokashira Koen on a Sunday afternoon, amongst the regular buskers, the art-market and the man dressed as a skeleton (there always seems to be a man dressed as a skeleton), you can occasionally see this lively fellow. He kneels in the dirt and spreads out before him an array of colourful manga, which he will read for you in a loud, animated fashion, making expansive hand gestures, hilarious facial expressions, and acting out all the onomatopoeia.
He doesn’t seem to ask for anything in return, there is no donation box - in fact, the couple in this photograph were offered some sweets for being such attentive listeners.
